The people of this country take
salt two to three times (5 grams vs. 10-15 grams) more per day than necessity on
an average. The prevalence of high blood pressure, stroke and coronary heart
disease, is one of the important factors behind the prevalence of
excess salt.
There can be no effect of
excess sodium in the body due to excess salt intake if the kidney can filter
& remove excess salt from the body. The kidney of no human is capable of this
work so much. It will be relevant in this context to mention the earlier statement
of Indian medical scientists associated with the ‘Inter-salt Study’. ‘Now we the
Indians have abundant salt in the bodies,’ said those scientists. ‘No
protection has been made so far in the body of the Indians to prevent the loss
of so much salt. So, salt quantity must be reduced in the food for good health
in any way.’ There is no substitute for moderate
use of salt in food to prevent heart disease. People accustomed to more salt do
not get taste in less salty food. This
does not mean that food with low salt would diminish.
Think about food and think about salt. Less salt will be good for your heart. However during summer and sunny light, can be increased a little more.
